ECE R48 — where every lamp on a vehicle must sit.
R48 is the master installation regulation. It defines which lamps are mandatory, which are optional, where they may be mounted, and how they must switch. Individual lamp regulations (R7 for position, R87 for DRL, R65 for beacons) certify the lamp itself. R48 certifies the vehicle on which the lamps are fitted.

ECE R7 — position lamps, stop lamps, end-outline markers.
R7 is the baseline certification for every lamp that simply makes a vehicle visible: front and rear position lamps, stop lamps, and end-outline marker lamps. It is the most-cited regulation on product spec-sheets because most lamps on most trucks fall under it.

ECE R87 — daytime running lamps.
DRLs became mandatory on new EU-registered vehicles in February 2011. R87 is the regulation they comply with. It specifies luminous intensity, colour, geometry and, critically, the switching logic — a DRL that fails to shut off under main-beam is as non-compliant as one that was never fitted.
