ECE R65 — the rule behind every warning light.
ECE R65 is the European standard that determines whether a rotating or flashing beacon is road-legal. It defines luminous intensity, flash rate, colour and mechanical endurance. Without an R65 mark, a beacon is not allowed on a public road anywhere inside UNECE territory — and insurers routinely refuse claims on vehicles carrying non-approved warning lights.

ADR — lighting rules for dangerous-goods transport.
ADR is the European agreement governing the international carriage of dangerous goods by road. Annex B, Part 9 contains the electrical-installation rules that a lamp on an ADR-rated vehicle must meet. It is stricter than ordinary road-vehicle standards — a lamp fitted to a tanker carrying flammable liquid has to survive electrical and mechanical conditions an ordinary delivery truck never sees.

Light commercial vehicles (Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, Volkswagen Crafter, Ford Transit, Renault Master, Iveco Daily, Fiat Ducato) run 12V passenger-car-style electrical architectures even when their bodies look truck-shaped. The lighting decisions here are closer to a car retrofit than a heavy-truck install — different fuses, different cable cross-sections, smaller power budget.
